Gameplay Missions

Missions for players to learn the basics and get started in BubbleTopia

Pre-mission training

After welcoming the character to the village, Yorta introduces the character to the key townsfolk. The player is instructed on how to move, pick up/drop items, jump, run, etc.

Mission 1

Gathering - After explaining a bit about the history of place, Yorta’s first mission is to bring three full measures of Water of Life (30 DRAMZ) in order to revitalize the wheat field. No wheat, no bread, no bread, no spring festival.

If the character is a pathfinder, the player may choose which of the three non-pathfinder class NPCs to take along. If the character is of any of the other three classes, then the pathfinder will be the only one available.

After pouring the Water of Life into the farmer’s well next to the wheat field, the farmer pumps some of the revitalized water into the irrigation troughs and the wheat gets visibly healthier within 5-10 seconds.

Mission 2

Fighting – Yorta explains that things aren’t always peaceful In Balasa. Just last week, some townsfolk were set upon by some greeblies (basic low-level monster – imagine a round black spikey thing with two skinny arms and legs and googly eyes about a foot and a half tall, brandishing a crude weapon).

Since the wheat field will now be productive again, it is likely that the greeblies will return. As a pre-emptive strike, Yorta would like you and one NPC to go and beat them up. If the character is a warrior, the player may choose which of the three non-warrior class NPCs to take along. If the character is of any of the other three classes, then the warrior will be the only one available.

The task: Character and companion will have to track down, and beat up four greeblies. If either the character or the NPC is a pathfinder, the good guys get surprise and automatically get a free attack. Three of the greeblies will go after the warrior, the fourth after the other character. The idea is for the warrior to soak damage until the other character can deal with the one greeblie that remains.

Once dispatched, that character can use their special talents to help the warrior out. The pathfinder will try flanking / sneaking attacks, the healer will heal the warrior of some of the damage taken so far, or the wizard can blast ‘em with blast’em spells. Although there is no Water of Life to be had here, there is some in-game money, which can be used to buy equipment.

Mission 3

Healing the sick – Water of Life is responsible for many things, including good health. The hermit who lives up the hill road, has taken ill. Yorta asks the character if they could get a measure of Water of Life to the hermit so that he can recover.

His wisdom has been invaluable to the village. If the character is a healer, the player may choose which of the three non-healer class NPCs to take along. If the character is of any of the other three classes, then the healer will be the only one available.

On this mission, the character will learn that the Water of Life can be found in different kinds of places. In this case, by squeezing out of some mushrooms that grow in a small cave at the base of the hill. The character will have to choose one of three attempts at how to extract the Water of Life: drying, squeezing, or mashing.

The choice to dry will result in the loss of the water of life, but the creation of some pretty trippy mushrooms. The choice to mashing will result in the recipient of the mushrooms to make a save or be killed. The choice to squeeze the mushrooms is the correct one, producing the precious Water of Life.

Mission 4

Learning Arcane Secrets – The Water of Life is a great mystery. Many wise seers and wizards have tried to understand just what it is and compile a list of all the things it can be used for. As it turns out, the list is pretty long. Spells too, use Water of Life on occasion, or can be employed as an option in order to enhance spell effects.

The task here is to journey in the wild to obtain a few spell components in order to give the wizard’s spells some real power. If the character is a wizard, the player may choose which of the three non-wizard class NPCs to take along.

If the character is of any of the other three classes, then the wizard will be the only one available.

On this mission, the character will have to search far and wide, exploring much of the unseen areas of this bubble in the process. The wizard must gather up as many special components for spell-casting and for alchemical purposes.

Through a series of minor fights, the wizard learns what some of the plants and fungi can do to enhance a spell. After defeating the greeblies, the characters can return to the village to gain a small reward.
